When
to Water Plants - Watering early in the morning or late in
the evening significantly helps to reduce water loss. Watering
in the heat of the day will result in evaporation before the
water reaches the plant's roots.
Weather conditions will play a large role in deciding when to
water. Rainy, cloudy, cooler weather obviously means using
precious water less often, but sunny, windy, and warmer weather
requires more frequent watering. Check the weather forecast
before watering - there could be a downpour within the hour! |

Use
a flower pot - Best done when planting new vegetables or
plants, sink a flower pot into the ground next to them. This can
then be filled with water which will percolate down to the roots
making sure that all the water you give them gets exactly where
its needed. Ensure the pot is big enough to take a reasonable
amount of water down to the roots at one time. The size of the
plot will depend on the plant size and it's requirement for
water. |

Crater
around the plant - The simplest method of retaining water
around the plant whilst it soaks down to the roots. After
planting, build a crater around the plant using spare soil and
ensure that the ground level inside the crater is marginally
lower than the general soil level. |
