Wessex Water is the regional water and sewage treatment business serving an area of the south west of England, covering 10,000 square kilometres and including Dorset, Somerset, Bristol, most of Wiltshire and parts of Gloucestershire & Hampshire. They daily treat and supply up to 385 million litres of drinking water drinking water to 1.2 million people and provide sewerage services to about 2.5million. They operate 135 water sources, 95 treatment plants, 11,000 kilometres of water mains and 320 storage reservoirs for treated water. Wessex Water was acquired by YTL Power International of Kuala Lumpur in May 2002. Targeted investment and promoting water conservation among their customers have helped them to supply water without restriction for more than 26 years. Their intensive leakage detection and repair service has enabled them to drive down leakage and ensure they meet the leakage target set by Ofwat. Nearly 80% of the water comes from groundwater sources - mostly boreholes. Around 20% comes from rivers and 12 surface water reservoirs. This page will been expanded soon |
