Welsh Water supply an average of over 900 million litres of water every day to 1.2 million households in Wales and some adjoining parts of England. In order to remove the wastewater from all the homes and businesses in the region they run and maintain over 19,000 km of sewers and operate over 800 wastewater treatment works. Welsh Water are not expecting a long-term water supply crisis in Wales, and havent had hosepipe bans or water restrictions for 15 years. Overall demand for water in Wales is not expected to rise because increasing use in the home is being offset by the reduction in demand from heavy industry and by the good progress we are making on reducing leakage. Over the last six years £69 million has been spent locating and fixing leaks in their network and they have reduced leakage by 26 per cent. This has saved enough water to supply the daily domestic needs of a city the size of Cardiff. This page will been expanded soon |
