United Utilities Water own and operate water and electricity networks in north west England and manage utility and business process services for customers throughout the UK and overseas United Utilities PLC was created from the merger of North West Water and Norweb in November 1995. Its shares are listed on both the London Stock Exchange and New York Stock Exchange. Its principal activities are managing and operating the regulated electricity distribution, water and wastewater networks in north west England, a region with a population of around 7 million. They are the UK's largest operator of water systems and own & operate the water network in north west England. Using 192 reservoirs, 453 service reservoirs and water towers, 40,000 km of water mains, 1,200 km of aqueduct and 137 water treatment works, the company supplies 2,000 million litres of water every day. It covers 2.9 million households and business premises. The business is also a provider of water and wastewater services to over 400 industrial and commercial enterprises. United Utilities is the UK's largest operator of wastewater systems. It owns and operates the wastewater network in north west England.
