Anglia's rainfall is only half the national average and Cambridge is the
driest part of this dry region. It has a high population density and
that population is increasing at a greater rate than many areas of the

This rate of leakage is below the level at which it is economical to find and repair them Their new water efficiency strategy means they aim to repair any identified leak within 2 working days of it being reported. They schedule the renewal, refurbishment or relining of old mains before they cause problems and each year over 20 kilometres of existing mains are refurbished. Leaks from customers' own pipes on their premises account for 24% of the total network leakage.
